In Jaipur, a Metro Station Run Only by Women

Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) is the first in the country to let only womenstaffs single-handedly man a busy metro station.
  • JMRC claims this is their way of empowering women and giving them their own space to lead others and show their mettle.
  • The Shyam Nagar Metro Station on the Mansarovar-Chandpole route will have 32 women employees, who will manage and control the entire station.
  • The women at the helm would frisk passengers, help in security, aid passengers to purchase tickets and tokens at the vend machines, maintain tracks and civil structures. Customer relations officer would also be present at the station, helping to keep the station spick and span and also customer ready.
JMRC already claims 30% of its manpower consists of women, including train operators and station controllers. Even 25% of train operators are women.
  • The first metro train which rolled out on June 3 this year was also manned by a women operator Jyoti Rani Khanakwal.
